Buyer Guide

for both new and returning buyers

Getting Started

When buying a home the most important thing is getting a pre-approval from a lender. This lets you know how much you can afford and takes away any guesswork on price. You are encouraged to do you own research, but a good place to start is with our partners page.

How much do I need?

The safest amount is 8% of the total purchase price of the home you want. So for example, if you are purchasing a house for $200,000, you want around $16,000 in cash set aside. This is a slight overestimate but it's better to be safe than sorry. And of course, make sure you consult both your REALTOR® and your lender.
